MTB singletrack paradise Girona
Discover with us why mountain biking is actually a much more popular sport than cycling among the locals of Girona, a true single track paradise directly from the center of Girona
Girona is a true mountain bike paradise and accessible to all levels. Directly from the city of Girona you have all types of routes: from very technical single tracks to beautiful wide gravel paths. Anne Tauber (Dutch MTB champion) trained with us and called the area ideal for training for World Cups because the terrain in the vicinity of Girona resembles the course of the World Cups: technical, rocks, not too long climbs, sections with soft ground and different types of landscapes in a small radius.
But there are also plenty of routes for the less experienced and even the novice mountain biker. We can start with routes that aren't too crazy and expand that into something more and more challenging in the following days. If you prefer to stay on the wider gravel paths all day, that is also possible, because there are many options for this too.
Girona is known worldwide for its cycling routes, but strangely enough Girona is even more impressive for its mountain bike routes. You cycle out of the historic center and without a single motorway you are directly in an area with countless MTB tracks. You can tackle long climbs in the Rocacorba area, but you can keep it flatter as you cycle south. The “World Cup” track is located North-East of the city in the Els Angels and Sant Miquel area. Dry coastal landscapes with rocks and sand towards the coast.
Mountain biking is a very popular sport among the Catalans (much more popular than cycling). Every village has its MTB club. And almost every Sunday a MTB Marathon, Gran Fondo or competition is organized. We ourselves often use the routes of recent competitions that have been held, so we know that the paths are well maintained. Paul also regularly participates in these competitions and keeps a close eye on the entire circuit and has many contacts in the Girona MTB world.
Once a year we organize a theme week that everyone can join (we split up the group in case of level differences), namely our Girona MTB Challenge week. This is all about the 3-day single track marathon race. A very well organized race that offers a challenge for the mountain biker, but at the same time it is also just manageable for the less experienced mountain biker (whom we brush up on the technique in the Spanish mountains the days before).
The rest of the year, mountain bike groups are welcome to come and train with us and/or participate in events in the area. Send us an email to info@campobicicleta.com for a no-obligation quote to mountain bike with your club or group of friends.
Paul Kneppers is the coach during the rides. He has a lot of experience in mountain biking, still competes regularly and finishes in the front. He knows the Girona area like the back of his hand. The landscape is constantly changing, causing trails to disappear or to be added (if one of the many mountain bike clubs has created a new trail). Paul is on the mountain bike at least once a week and thus always stays informed about the status of the trails. We often make a program in advance, but during the week we can be very flexible with it.
Come see it for yourself, you won't regret it!
