Coast to Coast Pyrenees

Experience this unforgettable Pyrenean adventure with us! You will experience all the beauty of the Pyrenees in six stages. We start in the afternoon of the arrival day with a prologue in the picturesque Basque coastal village of Hendaye, on the Atlantic Sea (the west). The next morning the tour starts, with which you cycle from west to east through the Pyrenees in 6 stages. For the evenings we have our regular restaurants with good menus and there is time to exchange stories of the day and the briefing for the next day.

For groups of up to 13 people, one of our Coast to Coast guides/soigneurs will accompany you (by car) and for groups of 14 or more, two guides will accompany you. Our enthusiastic guides organize a coffee stop and a lunch stop every day, the necessary encouragement during the stages, moving the luggage and the organization of breakfast and dinner. You don’t have to worry about the organization and just enjoy the incredibly beautiful mountain landscapes and the struggle on the cols.

A good condition is required for the 6 stages in the mountains (ask us for advice if necessary).

We will give you the route book with the GPX tracks in advance (with a loan Garmin if necessary). For most days we have two route versions where you take one extra pass with route “black”. You can choose which route you take per day.

We advise you to travel by train to the starting point and also from the end point by train back to the Netherlands. These are comfortable journeys and both the hotel in Hendaye (starting point) and in Banyuls-sur-mer (end point) are close to the train station where the TGV goes. In Hendaye your Bianchi rental bike is ready according to your wishes and you return the bike at the end of the week.

Be sure to book on time because we work with small hotels that have limited availability. Suitable months (due to the temperature in the high mountains) for this trip are June, July, August and September. Our connection week is September 7 – 14, 2024.

Route:

Day 1: Arrival and a prologue/tour in the afternoon. 45 km & 600 altimeters

Day 2: Hendaye – Oloron Sainte Marie. Route: 134 km & 2.330 altimeters (the only route option)
The first stage goes through the French Basque Country. It is a tough first ride, with three short climbs and mainly hilly roads through a green landscape.

Day 3: Oloron Sainte Marie – Argeles Gazost. Option A: 83 km & 2.400 altimeters,  Option B: 106 km & 3.095 altimeters
Stage 2 takes you to the first known cols. The long route goes over Col de Marie Blanque, Col d’Aubisque and Col de Soulor. The short route skips the first pass.

Day 4: Argeles Gazost – Bagneres de Luchon. Option A: 112 km & 2.530 altimeters,  Option B: 121 km & 3.800 altimeters
The queen stage of the Coast to Coast. The long route goes over Col du Tourmalet, Hourquette d’Ancizan and Col de Peyresourde. The shorter route goes around the Tourmalet via Lourdes.

Day 5: Bagneres de Luchon – Biert. Option A: 101 km & 2.400 altimeters, Option B: 123 km & 3.200 altimeters
The fourth stage starts the same for both routes with the Col de Mente and Portet d’Aspet. The long route then takes you to the undiscovered Col de la Core.

Day 6: Biert – Quillan. Option A: 114 km & 2.200 altimeters, Option B: 138 km & 3.000 altimeters
Vanaf de start stijgen we naar Col de Port en de Pas de Souloumbrie. De lange route neemt je daarna mee naar de top van de Col de Marmare en Col de Pailheres (2001 meter).

Day 7: Quillan – Banyuls-sur-mer. Route: 140 km & 2.200 altimeters (the only route option)
The final stage has one route option to the finish. The col of the day is Col de Jau and after the descent we drive on relatively flat roads to the Mediterranean Sea.

Day 8: Return trip.
